A group, Citizen Stability Forum (CSF) on Friday, lambasted the US, United Kingdom and the Canadian over the recent terror alert advising their citizens to avoid Nigeria’s capital, Abuja over possible attacks.

The group said, the alert which has left a bad taste on the side of Nigerians, questions the sort of diplomatic relationship vis-a-vis rules of diplomacy that exists between Nigerian government and the said countries.

Muktar Lawal, who spoke on behalf of the group condemned the US for going public with such intelligence without sharing any solid or useful information with Nigerian government, thus deliberately creating widespread speculation, panic and creating undue anxiety among Nigerians.

Lawal, who decried the recent advisory by the US Embassy in Nigeria asked if the same US would have acted in same manner if it had been in the Saudi, UAE, Turkey, Egypt or when the same US is faced with such security intelligence.

He said, this sole selfish act taken by the US Embassy in Nigeria will further worsen the livelihood of many citizens of Abuja and other states in the country.

” One would expect that when a foreign mission like the US is faced with such intelligence, it will channel such warnings and intelligence through diplomatic channels where adequate plans and provision will be made to not only avert the situation but apprehend the planners and sponsor’.

“These action by US, Canada, Denmark, UK and Australia, caused an unprecedented fear into the lives of Nigerians especially those living in Abuja and could also weaken the moral of our security personnel”.

“Every country around the world has its own security challenges, which the US is not an exemption as it struggles to overcome gun violence and mass shooting which has become so epidemic claiming lives including those of school children”.

Furthermore, Muktar emphasized that it is imperative for Nigerian government to draw the attention of the US government on the need to respect security protocols on intelligence sharing in the country.

“The US should be reminded that such public move by the US in addition to withholding security intelligence sharing with our government will only embolden terrorists and worsen the lives of citizens and residents of this country”, he added.
