A civil society organization, Stand Up Nigeria (SUN), has publicly commended the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Abubakar Audi, for what it described as his “courageous leadership” and decisive action following the tragic killing of several NSCDC officers in Edo State.
The commendation comes in the wake of a recent attack in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, where eight NSCDC personnel attached to the BUA Cement Company were killed in an ambush by armed gunmen.
The officers were reportedly on a routine patrol escorting Chinese expatriates when the incident occurred.
In a statement released in Abuja and signed by its national coordinator, Comrade Sunny Attah, the group praised Professor Audi for his immediate and professional response to the tragedy, particularly the swift deployment of Special Tactical Squads to the state to track down the perpetrators.
”The prompt and robust action taken by Commandant General Audi demonstrates a contagious, hands-on style of leadership which is exactly what our security architecture needs at this critical time,” the statement read.
“The department of special units like the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) and the special Intelligence Squad (SIS) team to fish out the killers and secure the area is a clear signal that the sacrifice of our gallant officers will not be in vain.”
’Stand Up Nigeria’ further noted that the CG’s commitment to the security of life and property, even in the face of significant loss, is highly commendable and serves as a morale booster for all security personnel in the country.
They urged other security agency heads to emulate his dedication to ensuring justice for fallen heroes and maintaining operational tempo against criminal elements.
The NSCDC Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, had earlier condemned the attack and vowed that the Corps would work relentlessly with other security agencies to apprehend the culprits and rescue the expatriate who was abducted during the ambush.
The NSCDC has also assured the public that the welfare of the families of the slain officers would be prioritized.
The civil society organisation urged Nigerians to support the NSCDC and other security agencies by providing credible information that could lead to the arrest of the attackers and improve overall security across the nation.
