Angry Residents set Police Division Ablaze in Kano

Angry youths have set ablaze the Rano Police Divisional Headquarters, Kano following the death of a suspect while in custody.

Violence broke out in the region after one Abdullahi Musa, arrested on Sunday for traffic-related offence, reportedly died during police interrogation.

The angry youths reportedly went berserk after officers from the division fired live ammunition at them injuring two persons.

The Police Divisional Officer of Rano (DPO), is reported to be a notorious officer who allegedly punishes his men openly using corporal forms of punishments.

The Spokesperson of the Police in Kano, SP. Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa in an earlier post on his official Facebook page said the situation at Rano will be investigated.

The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, and the Chairman of Rano Local Government Area, Mohammed Naziru Ya’u, are currently visiting the affected division and the community in an attempt to douse the tension and further escalation.
