Customs Impound Truck Ladened with Uncustomed Goods

The Nigeria Customs Service’ Joint Border Patrol Sector 4 has intercepted a truck loaded with smuggled goods into the country.

The Coordinator of the Joint Border Patrol, Custom services Northwest Zonal Sector 4, Controller kolapo Oladeji paraded the siezed truck and it’s contents today in Kano.

He said, the Uncustomed goods were intercepted after the Sector uncovered a  scheme used by smugglers to bring in prohibited goods from Niger Republic.

Physical examination of the consignment

Oladeji reminded the public that the entire border of Northwest with Niger Republic remains closed against human traffic, vehicular or any other things including cows or chicken.

“This is to showcase part of our ongoing efforts in anti smuggling and enforcement of border closure compliance. As you all know, the entire border of Northwest with Niger Republic is closed against human traffic, vehicular or any other things including cows or chicken”.

“Due to our 24/7 patrol at both entry and exit borders, this unscrupulous persons now bring forbidden goods it in small pieces on motorbikes or using animals like cows and camels and pile up their goods at a particular location for onward shipment”.

“This truck was intercepted in Jigawa State based on a very cogent intelligence provided by the Office of the Controller General of Customs after intelligence revealed that these goods were being loaded into a truck before they proceed.

“We are always on ground, we monitor every movement around our jurisdictions and will not hesitate to apprehend anyone who violates importation rules of the country capable of jeopardising the economy”, Kolapo added.

However, preliminary examination indicates the contents were most likely soaps while those behind it absconded when they realised the men of the Customs were on their trail.
