The Nigeria Customs Service has tasked officers to strive for self improvement to conform with modern standard of operations and other processes.
The Zone B Coordinator, Assistant Comptroller General of Customs AAS Aloyede FICM FCIPDM made the call Wednesday in Kano during a 2-Day Working Visit to the Kano/Jigawa Area Command.
According to him, the call became pertinent considering series of emerging technological innovations under the able leadership of Comptroller General of Customs CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR MFC who is determined to digitize customs system and processes in the country.
“With the Coming in of a digital Comptroller General in the person of Bashir Adeniyi MFR a lot is changing as such in your personal capacity, I urge you all to strive to improve your capacity for maximum out put and efficiency in service delivery”.
“Equip yourselves, make researches, exploit available materials on the Service’s systems for self improvement which will also serve as an added advantage to you in your forthcoming promotional exams”.
“The digitalization of the Service will improve our processes and make work easier and reduce human error and I can assure you, it will enhance our jobs”
He further admonished the men of the service to remain upright, shun corruption and uphold high standard of discipline at all times as the CGC does not condone any unethical practices.
“You must avoid compromise in your jobs as the CGC does not condone such that is why we have anti corruption units”.
“We also have the customs reward policies to appreciate and encourage officers who display uprightness and to serve as motivation for others”
Stephen, who also had an interactive session with stakeholders advocated the need for attitudinal change to overcome existing challenges raised by Stakeholders.
Some challenges extensively discussed were; cumbersome process of customs transiers, poor network, delay of clearing containers resulting in more demurrage and lack of carrying stakeholders along on formulation of new policies as well as arrests of foreign currencies.
Other activities during the visit include commissioning of the Upgraded Abdullahi Dikko Inde Ultra Modern Conference Hall for Officers’ usage.
