As we celebrate the 62nd birthday of His Excellency Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, it’s a moment to reflect on the remarkable journey of a leader who has dedicated his life to serving the people of Kano. With a legacy that spans over six decades, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the welfare and development of his state.

His Excellency Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s journey to becoming the Governor of Kano State is one marked by unflinching loyalty to what he believes in,dedication and passion for serving his people. With a career spanning over three decades, H. E Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf has accumulated a wealth of experience in various fields, including engineering, administration, and politics. He started his working career with the Kano State Water Resources Engineering Construction Agency (WRECA) and later held positions in the Kano State Water Board and the Ministry of Water Resources. His leadership skills and expertise were evident even in his early years, as he held various positions of leadership in these organizations.

Abba Kabir Yusuf’s foray into politics was marked by his appointment as Assistant Secretary of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Employees, Kano State, from 1996 to 1998. He later served as Personal Assistant to the Kano State Executive Governor, Engr. Dr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, and Special Assistant (Administration) from 1999 to 2003. His experience in governance and administration was further honed when he worked as Personal Assistant to the Honourable Minister of Defence from 2003 to 2006. As the Special Assistant to the Special Adviser to the President on Darfur/Somalia until 2007, Abba Kabir Yusuf gained valuable insight into national and international affairs. His appointment as the Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) in 2009 by the late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua was an attestation to his reputation as a capable and visionary leader

As Commissioner of Works, Housing and Transport in Kano State from 2011 to 2015, H. E Abba Kabir Yusuf oversaw unprecedented infrastructural development in the state. Under his stewardship, the government executed numerous projects, including the construction of modern flyovers, underpass roads, and sewage conduits. The state also witnessed the provision of streetlights, modern traffic lights, and independent hydro power electricity plants. During this period, as the Commissioner of Works, Housing and Transport in the administration of his boss, mentor and leader, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to education and human development was evident in the construction of technical schools, schools of Islamic studies, and garment industries across the state. His vision for a better Kano was further reflected in the establishment of the Kano State Roads Maintenance Agency (KARMA), the resuscitation of the Kano State Asphalt and Quarry Company, and the establishment of the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA).

Today, as the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf is leveraging his rich experience to govern the state with excellence. His dedication to the welfare and development of his people is unwavering, and his administration is focused on delivering on its campaign promises. With his proven track record of leadership and governance, Abba Kabir Yusuf is poised to take Kano State to greater heights.

Under his ongoing leadership, Kano is currently being transformed into a hub of progress and prosperity. The administration’s focus on education, infrastructure, and healthcare has been unprecedented. In the education sector, the government has declared a state of emergency, allocating 29% of the 2024 budget to education, and an impressive 31% in the 2025 budget. This has led to significant reforms, including the renovation and construction of schools, provision of free uniforms, and learning materials.

In infrastructure, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has embarked on massive projects, including the construction of mega flyover interchanges, rural road construction, and urban development. The administration has also introduced solar-powered streetlights, which has not only reduced air pollution but also enhanced security.

The healthcare sector has also witnessed significant improvements, with the renovation and equipping of hospitals, procurement of ambulances, and the introduction of the Abba Care Programme. The administration is set to begin upgrading primary health care facilities to general hospitals, providing accessible medical care to the people of Kano.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to the welfare of his people is evident in his efforts to empower women and youth. The women empowerment program, which targets 5,200 women, has provided a stipend of N50,000 monthly to expand their businesses. Similarly, the administration has organized a mass wedding of 1,800 couples, providing furniture and dowry for the couples.

As Kano celebrates the 62nd birthday of its beloved governor, it’s a moment to acknowledge his tireless efforts to rebuild and restore the state to its former glory. Despite the challenges and attempts to undermine his authority, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains focused and committed to his vision for a greater Kano.
