Nine people have been confirmed dead while four others sustained critical injuries following a violent clash between farmers and herders in Jigawa State.

The tragic incident unfolded in the Miga and Jahun Local Government Areas, continuing a troubling pattern of deadly confrontations in the region.

According to reports, the violence was triggered when suspected Fulani miscreants allegedly stole hibiscus and other valuable items from a shop in Gululu village, Miga LGA.

In response, farmers traced the culprits’ footprints to a Fulani settlement camp in Yankunama village, Jahun LGA.

Tensions escalated rapidly as the farmers were reportedly met with bow and arrow fire, resulting in fatalities on both sides.

DSP Lawan Shisu Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer, explained that the violence spiraled further when locals retaliated by attacking the Fulanis and setting fire to their homes across various areas of Miga and Jahun LGAs.

“Police personnel from the Miga and Jahun Divisions were immediately deployed to restore peace,” Adam stated.

The Jigawa police headquarters confirmed that nine bodies were recovered and transported to Jahun and Miga hospitals, where medical personnel officially pronounced them dead.
