The long debated battle of Kano emirate which was splitted into five under former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje took a new turn on Thursday.
Since the creation of four more Emirates of Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye emirates alongside the historic Kano Emirate, and the subsequent dethroning of the then Emir of Kano. Mahammadu Sanusi II, the system has been in turmoil.
The Kano State House of Assembly however passed the Kano Emirates Council Law (Repeal Bill) 2024, effectively abolishing the establishment of five new emirates in the state today.

With this, all offices created under the repealed law have been dissolved, and district heads appointed or elevated under the previous legislation are to revert to their former positions.

It is expected that the then Emir Sanusi II will be reinstalled as the Emir of Kano following the state assembly’s decision to recognise only one first class emir in the state.
