Hajiya Habibat Oyiza Onumoko, Kogi State Accountant General has been criticized following her alleged role in the detention of one of her critics.
The victim, a Facebook user, Ododo D’Flower Boiz Vanguard, has been in detention for over two months following a critical post he made about her.
He criticized Onumoko for her reportedly strained relationship with other members of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s cabinet.
He particularly accused her of treating local government chairmen with disdain, as though they were her subordinates.
“Your relationship matters most because life after politics is key,” he wrote.
Quoting an Ebira adage, he added, “If you are sent as a child with a message, you should deliver it as a servant.”
The Facebook user went on to say that a significant number of Kogi indigenes have expressed dissatisfaction with Onumoko’s leadership style, suggesting that it is not in the best interest of Governor Ododo, whom he described as a “Servant Leader” working hard to reposition the state.
“95% of Kogites are complaining about you, Madam AG. We are not pleased with your leadership. It is unhealthy for the governor and the entire Kogi State,” he alleged.
The Facebook user, who appears to be a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the same party as the Accountant General, questioned why Onumoko is frequently at the center of controversy. He urged her to protect the image of the governor and allow her colleagues room to operate.
“Please allow your colleagues to breathe,” he wrote. “You have become like a ‘big masquerade’ to them, showing no respect, especially to the local government executive chairmen in Kogi State. You talk down to them like children when they appear before you.”
He further cautioned her against acting superior to other government officials, emphasizing that they were democratically elected while she is an appointee.
“If you are indeed interfering in the affairs of other offices — even if for accountability purposes — please apply some decorum. None of them are children to be spoken to anyhow. You are creating unnecessary tension among cabinet members.”
“We’ve had many Accountant Generals before you, and you won’t be there forever,” he added.
Efforts to contact the Accountant General was unsuccessful as at the time of filing this report.
