Open Letter to Kano Govt, KEDCO on Power Supply Shortage during Ramadan

Dear KEDCO and the Kano State Government,

I hope this letter finds you well. As we approach the holy month of Ramadan, I feel compelled to address a recurring issue that profoundly affects the lives of the people of Kano State, the persistent shortage of power supply, especially during this sacred period.

For several years, our communities have faced a significant decline in electricity supply as Ramadan draws near. This shortage creates immense hardships, from cooking meals for iftar to performing nightly prayers.

The inconvenience affects not just households, but also businesses that rely on stable power for their daily operations, leading to increased frustrations and economic challenges.

We have heard troubling rumors suggesting that this power shortage could be a calculated move by certain ice block sellers to boost their sales during Ramadan. Such practices, if true, are not only unethical but also demonstrate a lack of regard for our community’s welfare.

It is also disheartening to observe the state government investing billions of Naira into initiatives such as mass weddings and livestock distribution. While these endeavors are commendable in their intent to uplift the less privileged, we believe that these resources could yield far greater benefits if allocated towards subsidizing electricity costs during Ramadan. This approach has been successfully implemented in other states, resulting in significant improvements in the quality of life for their citizens.

We, the residents of Kano State, appeal to both KEDCO and the Kano State Government to prioritize stable and adequate power supply, especially during this crucial month of fasting and reflection. A consistent power supply will foster a sense of community, alleviate economic pressures, and allow every individual to wholeheartedly embrace the spirit of Ramadan.

I call upon all stakeholders and concerned citizens to voice their support for this urgent issue, as we collectively seek improvement in our living conditions. Let us work together to ensure that our people are not deprived of the simple blessings that electricity brings during such a significant time.

We hope you will take immediate action to address this pressing concern, and we look forward to your prompt response.

Sincerely,
A Concerned Citizen,
Comrd Abba Tafida
