Update: DPO killed in Residents, Police Clash in Kano

Police Authorities in Kano state have confirmed the death of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Rano.

Spokesperson of the Command, SP. Haruna Kiyawa who confirmed the unfortunate incident said, the DPO lost his life after sustaining life threatening injuries as a result of attack on his facility by some persons.

Recalled that Blazon News Nigeria earlier reported a clash between some angry residents of Rano and the police after a suspect, Abdullahi Musa arrested yesterday reportedly died in police custody.

The angry residents, mostly youth mobilized and attacked the Police station setting it ablaze after their protest turned violent while two more persons sustained gun shot injury.

Kiyawa who did not mention the late Officer’s name, revealed that two vehicles were set ablaze and ten (10) others vandalized during the attack while the seriously injured  Divisional Police Officer died at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital after he was rushed there for treatment.

He said so far, Twenty (27) suspects have been arrested in connection with the incidents, adding that the situation has been brought under control, and normalcy has been restored.

The Command while commiserating with the family of the deceased DPO that paid the supreme price in active service, appeals to residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their hands, allowing the investigation to progress uninterrupted.
