Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has dismissed reports alleging that he has defected to the New Democratic Congress (NDC), describing the claim as false, mischievous and the handiwork of political opponents bent on causing confusion.
Reacting to posters circulating on social media portraying him as a member of the NDC, Ganduje declared that he remains a loyal member of the APC, insisting that he is “not a vulture flying from one tree to another” in search of political relevance.
The former Kano State governor made the clarification in a statement issued on Friday by his former Commissioner for Information and Chief of Staff, Comrade Muhammad Garba.
According to the statement, the fake posters were deliberately designed to mislead the public, sow discord among APC members and fuel unnecessary political speculation.
Ganduje maintained that he has remained consistent in his political convictions and has never contemplated leaving the APC, a party he served as its National Chairman.
He described the allegation that he had joined the NDC as not only false but completely illogical, stressing that the APC remains Nigeria’s largest and strongest political party, with growing national acceptance under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The statement accused “desperate political mischief-makers” of orchestrating the fake defection campaign in a failed attempt to tarnish Ganduje’s reputation and create anxiety within the ruling party.
It further revealed that those behind the production and circulation of the posters had been identified and warned that legal action would be taken against them if they failed to immediately withdraw the defamatory materials and stop further circulation.
Ganduje called on APC members, supporters and the general public to disregard the fake posters, insisting that they do not represent his political position or intentions.
He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting President Tinubu and the APC leadership in consolidating the gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthening the party ahead of future political engagements.
The former APC National Chairman also urged Nigerians to rely only on his official communications and those of the appropriate organs of the party for authentic information regarding his political activities.
