The Tax Ombud/Chief Executive, Dr. John Nwabueze, has tasked the pioneer staff of the Office of the Tax Ombud to uphold integrity, professionalism and quality service as the foundation for building a credible tax dispute resolution system in Nigeria.

Speaking on Monday at the induction ceremony for the agency’s pioneer workforce, Dr. Nwabueze said the success of the newly established institution depends on discipline, punctuality, adherence to professional standards and strict compliance with its operational guidelines. The induction was themed, “Building Institutional Excellence Through Shared Purpose and Professional Commitment.”

He urged the staff to remain committed to resolving tax disputes efficiently, noting that doing so would encourage voluntary tax compliance, reduce friction between taxpayers and tax authorities, and restore public confidence in the nation’s tax administration.

According to him, the Office of the Tax Ombud is one of the landmark outcomes of the tax reform agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at creating a fair, efficient and citizen-centred tax system. He stressed that every employee has a crucial role to play in delivering the agency’s mandate.

Dr. Nwabueze also disclosed that the Office has strengthened public access to its services through the launch of its official website, a toll-free call centre and a digital Case Management System. The platforms, he said, enable taxpayers to obtain information, file complaints free of charge and track their cases in real time.

He assured staff of continuous training, improved welfare and a conducive working environment, adding that the two-day induction programme featured presentations and knowledge-sharing sessions led by experts and senior officials of the Office.
