The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has been placed on red alert following the discovery of Ethylene Oxide Chemical in Indomie instant Noodles ‘Special Chicken flavor’ capable of causing cancer.
This is contained in a press release by the agency’s Director General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye.
The agency’s spokes person in Kano on Tuesday, Nura Muhammad Rabiu while confirming the development to Blazon News Nigeria said, already, the agency’s task force in the state have been deployed to withdraw samples of the product for lab analysis and possible action for the safety of the public.
According to him, the discovery was made by Ministries of Health in Taiwan and Malaysia which confirmed the chemical compound found in the product is associated with an increased risk of cancer.
“As a responsible and responsive regulator, we are taking swift actions to carry out random sampling not only the said flavor, but all other brands of instant noodles in the Nigerian markets including the seasoning”.
“We assure the public that thorough investigation will be made and our findings will be communicated. in the meantime, we call on the general public to be cautious of the product pending the outcome of our investigations”, Nura added
