Climate Change: Kano Set to Plant 1m Trees

Kano State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso says, the State government is committed to plant more trees in the state with a view to address the issues of climate change.

The Commissioner pointed out that the State is carrying out the 3rd phase of the tree planting exercise with this, taking place at zoological Garden in Municipal local government area.

Recall that the 1st phase is already taking place at kawaji zonal education in Nasarawa local government area, while the 2nd phase at Gwarzo Road in Gwale local government area, all in a bid to address the issues of flooding and global warming.

He therefore urged people in the state as a matter of concern to plant at least one tree by each individuals and manage it properly up to the time of maturity to safeguard from ravaging of floods and climate change.

He further urged the people in the state to complement government efforts by avoiding indiscriminate dumping of waste.

Earlier in his welcome address, the managing Director kano zoological garden Alh Lawan Jinjiri commended the commissioner for choosing the zoological garden for the tree planting exercise which is timely and needed, looking at the green nature of the environment.

He also pledged to monitor and supervise the seedling up to the time of maturity in order to create an enabling environment for the teeming guests.
