Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State on Sunday set ablaze confiscated expired, fake and unwholesome products following their seizure by the State Consumer Protection Council (CPC) under the able leadership of Hon. Baffa Babba Dan’agundi.
According to the Governor, the seizure is an indication that the State is winning the war against the menace of drug abuse, fake and expired consumable products dangerous to human health.
” What we are witnessing today is an indication that we are succeeding in important fight against drug abuse and sale of fake and unwholesome products which have become a threat in recent times.
No doubt most of these products we are destroying today were intended to be sold during this Holy Month of Ramadan and only God knows the magnitude of health hazards these would have caused”.
Ganduje who commended Baffa for numerous successes recorded by the CPC since he was appointed Acting MD of the Council said ‘this is the biggest catch we have ever made in the State”.
Furthermore, he commended other relevant stakeholders such as the NDLEA, NAFDAC, Police and others for the senergy and cordial relationship that exists between them leading to more break through in the fight which he believe the State is winning.
Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje further revealed that a sum of N50billion was approved to support the Council so that the State Task Force does not lack all the necessary support to tackle the menace just as the State is currently reviewing it’s Consumers’ Laws to further protect them and those who violates such laws severely dealt with under the law.
