As part of its commitment towards ensuring a friendly and more convenient ways of doing business, the Kano State Agro Pastoral Development Project through Sasakawa Africa Association have supported various food processors in Kano state with modern machineries.
According to the Project coordinator, KSADP/SASAKAWA, Abdulrashid Hamisu Kofar Mata, the intervention is one out of the many supports rendered by the project which will create more jobs, increase productivity, while food processors can now process their products under hygienic conditions and under less labour.
He made this known during a 5 days 2023 media field day to showcase achievements recorded so far by the project this year across the state during which 15 local government areas of the state were visited with journalists for on-the-spot assessment.
Some beneficiaries who spoke with news men, expressed delight and applauded KSADP and Sasakawa for the intervention which has further made their businesses easier and maximized their production which leads to more revenue generation and income.
Hajiya Lubabatu Aliyu, the leader of Rice Parboiling Enterprise, Fegi Kura L.G.A said Sasakawa’s has equipped their centre with modern equipment for rice parboiling which has increased their production from 1 bag per day to 16 bags per day.
“We have been provided with 4 modern drums and other tools in our centre for rice parboiling business. Our work before now was so tedious that we could only parboil a bag per day but now that has significantly increased to 16 bags per day”.
“We are now getting more jobs from many farmers who bring to us their rice for parboiling, this of course means we need to engage more hands to enable us meet up with the demands of our customers as you can see here with there are over 25 women working at this centre.”
“Through this intervention, we have also learnt how to parboil our rice under hygienic conditions and I want to assure that we would continue to make judicious use of these centre and even improve on the knowledge we have acquired”, she added.
Also, Khadija Abubakar Jibril, the leader of KAJ Agro Allied products, Sheka sabuwar Abuja, Zoo Road Kano who is into processing various grains into flour said her centre has been empowered with no fewer than two machines namely; the Huller Mill and Hammer Miller.
“We have received tow machines which aid our processing business. We process beans into flour, oats, fura, danwake flour and others”.
“As a result of this intervention, I now have not less than 30 workers under my establishment as staff including graduates. We produce 15 types of products which are all organic and highly nutritious”.
“The KSADP/Sasakawa project is a life changer and I’m happy to be a beneficiary”.
Other beneficiaries include Mutajalo Women MPCS , Ungogo LGA and Karfi Rice Mill Association, Kura LGA.
