The forum of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) contractors has again raised the alarm and cried out for help over what it called “30 per cent kickbacks” before its members are paid money being owed them by the commission.

A group, the South-South Elders Progressive Forum (SSEPF) in Delta State had last week written to President Bola Tinubu over alleged extortion of 30 per cent of contract sums from contractors as kickbacks and an alleged N6 billion bribe paid by some people to retain their positions in the dissolved Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Board.

In a statement signed by the Forum of NDDC contractors by its president, Samuel Peresuode, and secretary, Aghogho Okpako, and obtained by SaharaReporters, the forum said it called on the president to as a matter of urgency come to their rescue, the NDDC and the Niger Delta region.

“As contractors owed by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for contracts executed we are decrying the practice where we have to part with 30% of the value of our payment certificates as kickbacks before we get paid. Even a random visitor to the NDDC head office in Port Harcourt knows about this.

Contractors are constantly heard discussing in hoarse tones about their anguish amongst themselves and with agents of front-companies belonging to members of the management team to receive the kickbacks.
