Our attention has been drawn to a malicious post, trending on a Facebook page of one Hannatu Suleiman Abba with the above caption.
The post is a blatant lies with the intent to blackmail and was shared by the acclaimed investigative journalist working for Arewa Agenda, an online news medium.
While certain professional ethics should have been her guide in the conduct of her assignment, to our dismay, she ended up jumping to conclusion on the matter she knows not.
The writer also allowed her emotional feelings to override her sense of judgement in contradiction to the ethics of journalism profession.
To further exposed the inexperience of the writer, AGILE Project, is a World bank supported project aimed at improving Adolescent Girls Education not only in Kano but in seven states of the federation and it has been doing wonderfully well in that direction.
And just like other international financial institutions or donor agencies, they have a very strong mechanism for project monitoring and evaluation on every single Kobo released for their assisted projects.
However, instead of conducting her investigation on the project professionally, she resorted to making a misleading headline by calling the the entire project a scam.
We do not want to jump to the conclusion wether the writer is doing this on her own or possibly being sponsored, or to satisfy her eagerness to be on the Facebook for more followers, her action amount to damaging her reputation and the credibility of the medium she works for.
Though it will not be in the interest of the Kano AGILE Project to join issue with her, we however, want to draw her attention to retract the faulty post and tender an apology to the project in her own interest.
I am also using this opportunity to appeal to our dear colleagues in the pen pushing profession to bear in mind that being negative and emotional is not the best approach to make one popular, rather doing the right thing will earn you a good name and make you a credible personality.
