Renowned Kano Activist IG Maryam is Dead, Gov Abba Mourns

A renowned Kano Activist, I.G Maryam has passed away last night after battling with an illness associated with the heart.

I.G Maryam who dedicated his life to the service of the people, was a strong voice in the state and even beyond.

Maryam spent decades advocating for accountability, good governance and the development of the people of Kano and Nigeria at large.

He was known as the father of data when it comes to budget tracking and constituency projects, all, in a bid to demand accountability from those in power.

Meanwhile, Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has extended condolence to the family of Kano based civil society activist Comrade Ibrahim Garba Maryam who died in the early hours of today.

The Governor described the deceased as a progressive who paid his dues through advocacy efforts on good governance, accountability and transparency to government in Kano state.

A statement issued by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the spokesperson to the Governor said the sixty year old I.G. Maryam died after a brief Illness and he is survived by his wife and four children.

“We wish to extend our heartfelt condolence to his immediate family and Kano civil society Forum, we pray that Allah Subbahahu wa Ta’ala forgive all his misdeeds and dwell him in the best part of Jannatul Firdausy” prayed, the Governor.

Funeral prayer for the late activist is expected to hold immediately after Juma’a prayers today at his office premises on Hadeja Road, Kano.
