Gov.Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has charged the State Contingent for the National Sports Festival to to work hard, exhibit sportsmanship spirit and win Gold medals for the State.
The Governor represented by his Deputy Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna made the statement on Thursday at the Kano Pillars Football Club Stadium while bidding farewell to the State Contingent as they depart tommorow Friday for the Sports fiesta.
In his Speech, he pointed out that his administration since coming on board in 2015 has given adequate priority to sport as a means of engaging the youth to be employed.
The Governor then congratulates the athletes for being selected to represent Kano at the National Sports Festival in Edo State.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Hassan Musa Fagge, the Governor assures the athletes of his administration support as well as the the entire State.
“I am assuring you of the support of our government and the people of Kano State, all we want from you is to make us proud by Gold medals”
“We are fulfilling our promise for any medal you win at the Sports Festival therefore we are going to be with you in spirit”, Ganduje emphasised.
Earlier, the Chairman, Kano State Sports Commission, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima revealed that the State with a Contingent comprising of 206 persons is participating in 24 games.
“During the last sports festival which took place in Abuja in 2018, Kano came 8th on the overall medals table, but this time the team is determined therefore I am assuring you we will do much better he said”.
He further stated that all arrangements for the camping of the athletes has been completed, all COVID-19 protocols put in place and infact had also undertaken insurance cover for the contingent.
Alhaji Galadima also highlighted that Kano is also representing the North West Zone in 5 Sporting events namely; Basketball (male and female categories), Handball, Volleyball, Rugby and Field events.
Responding on behalf of the Contingent, Coach of the Handball team, Solomon Yola said they are ready for the largest sports gathering in the country, while expressing appreciation to the Kano State Government for the support affirms that “all We have to do is go out there and make Kano proud”.
