The Coalition of Renewed Hope has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration against recent criticisms over insecurity, economic hardship, labour relations and other national issues, accusing opposition politicians of exploiting Nigerians’ challenges for political gain.

The group, in a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade James Okoronkwo, and National Secretary, Comrade Jamilu Maikano, said the Tinubu administration was confronting the country’s security and economic challenges with greater commitment, while urging Nigerians to support the government’s reform agenda.

Reacting to the abduction of 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Imo State, the Coalition expressed sympathy with the victims’ families and commended security agencies for rescuing some of the abductees. It urged Nigerians to allow security agencies to conduct ongoing operations without unnecessary pressure.

The group, however, criticised calls by the APM for President Tinubu’s resignation over the incident, describing the demand as politically motivated. It argued that insecurity predated the current administration and said the Federal Government was strengthening intelligence gathering, technology, funding, training and inter-agency cooperation to tackle terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.

On Vice President Kashim Shettima’s recent comments about the economic situation inherited by the Tinubu administration, the Coalition said the government took difficult decisions, including fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange reforms, to prevent the economy from sliding further into crisis.

It acknowledged that Nigerians were still facing economic pressures but argued that the reforms were beginning to produce positive indicators, citing renewed investment interest in sectors including oil and gas, solid minerals, manufacturing and the capital market.

The Coalition also criticised former Rivers State Governor and Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, over comments linking his mother’s death to the country’s economic situation. It accused him of politicising a personal tragedy and urged political leaders to address healthcare and welfare challenges without exploiting the death of loved ones for partisan purposes.

Reacting to comments by Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Joe Ajaero that the Tinubu administration treats Nigerians as enemies, the group listed the new minimum wage, CNG initiatives, youth empowerment programmes, electric tricycles and NELFUND interventions among what it described as evidence of government support for workers, students and vulnerable Nigerians.

The Coalition further dismissed Labour’s criticism as unfair, while urging the NLC to remain independent and constructive in its engagement with government. It said the interests of Nigerian workers should take precedence over partisan political considerations.

On Peter Obi’s reported promise to spend holidays in Zamfara and Borno if elected president in 2027, the group described the proposal as symbolic politics, arguing that Nigerians needed concrete security policies rather than political gestures.

The Coalition also attacked former presidential aide Femi Ojudu over his recent criticisms of the administration, questioning his silence during some of the controversies surrounding the previous Central Bank of Nigeria leadership and accusing him of political inconsistency.

It urged Ojudu to deploy his experience towards offering constructive counsel rather than engaging in what it described as sustained public attacks against the Tinubu administration.

The Coalition maintained that President Tinubu was “on the right track” and accused opposition groups of resorting to misinformation, blackmail and the politicisation of national challenges. It called on Nigerians, labour organisations, civil society groups and political actors to place national interest above partisan considerations.

The group said criticism remained essential to democracy but should be factual, responsible and solution-driven, stressing that Nigeria required unity, responsible citizenship and collective determination to achieve greater security, economic stability and prosperity.

Signed by Comrade James Okoronkwo, National Coordinator, and Comrade Jamilu Maikano, National Secretary, the statement was issued in Abuja on October 6, 2026.
