Leading Tijjaniyya groups in Kano have dismissed claims that the Islamic movement has endorsed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf or any other politician ahead of the 2027 general elections.
They insist that the sect remains a non-partisan religious body.
Speaking with journalists in Kano on Saturday, the Head of the Gausiyya Association of Tijjaniyya in Kano, Sheikh Abubakar Ahmad Darma, said the sect has no political affiliation and has not adopted any candidate.
He stressed that while members are free to join political parties and support candidates of their choice, such decisions are personal and do not represent the position of the Tijjaniyya movement.
“The Tijjaniyya Sect is not a political entity but a purely religious organization with millions of followers across Nigeria. As a body, we have not endorsed anybody,” Darma said, adding that Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass encouraged political participation only to promote justice and public welfare, not personal material gain.
In a separate statement, the Sufi Political Awareness Forum, Kano, led by Malam Tuhami Abubakar Adam, also distanced itself from reports claiming it had endorsed Governor Yusuf for the 2027 elections, describing such claims as false.
The forum further expressed dissatisfaction with the Kano State Government’s handling of some sensitive issues, particularly the case involving Malam Lawan Triumph, while maintaining that the Shura Majlis of the Tijjaniyya Sect is a religious institution and not a platform for political endorsements.
