The Kano State Government has refuted allegations of N1.8 billion mismanagement against the immediate past Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, describing the claims as false and misleading.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, made the clarification following a directive by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf during the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration, mandating a thorough investigation into the allegation.

The controversy arose after the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Kano State, Comrade Kabiru Inuwa, alleged that the former Head of Service mismanaged state funds, a claim the government said required urgent verification.

Speaking at a Dinner and Award Night held at the Government House, Kano, the SSG explained that the N1.8 billion was not misappropriated but traced to excessive deductions from civil servants’ salaries by loan vendors.

He revealed that the state government engaged an independent auditing firm to review the payroll system and accounts of affected workers, which uncovered widespread overcharging by the vendors beyond agreed terms.

Consequently, the government has directed the loan vendors to refund the N1.8 billion, with assurances that the recovered funds will be returned to the affected civil servants.
