Kano/Jigawa Customs gets new Boss, Outlines Focus for 2026

The Kano/Jigawa Customs has revealed it will focus on the Service’s core mandates of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling operations in the New Year, 2026.

The New Area Controller, U.U Adamu made this known at the Commands Headquarters in Kano, Wednesday during a ceremony of change of the leadership baton, marking the end of Compt. Dalhatu Abubakar’s era after his statutory retirement.

According to Adamu, a Deputy Controller of Customs, the change of guard is a historic moment, signalling a generational transition shaped by years of mentorship by the outgoing CAC, Comptroller Abubakar Zurmi.

“Succeeding a leader of such calibre who was recently recognized as the Best Area Controller of the Year 2025 is both a challenge and a distinct honour. Be assured we will sustain not only his legacy but also build upon it”.

“My administration’s focus and programmes will be specific to the NCS core mandates of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling operations.

“The command will in the new year and the years ahead, face the daunting task of sustaining and improving the upward revenue trend and also continue the ongoing intelligence-based enforcement operations to safeguard the society from harmful and offensive goods, he added.

Most importantly, Usman pledged to consolidate on the existing platforms to make the terminals, sheds, and stations business-friendly and efficient for traders bearing in mind, the uniqueness and strategic importance of the Kano/Jigawa Command to Nigeria’s economy, which encompasses a thriving Free Trade Zone, a busy International Airport, Inland Dry Ports, cargo terminals, and strategic land borders.

The new Customs Boss further added his goal is to make Kano once again a thriving commercial hub and a model of reference for compliance, integrity, and prosperity strictly with in line with the CGC’s policy thrust of consolidation, collaboration, and innovation.

In his farewell address, Controller of Customs, Abubakar Dalhatu said his heart is filled with gratitude as he proceed on statutory retirement after attaining 35 years in Service reflecting on the journey shared together in the last 10 months, the milestones achieved in Customs operations, challenges overcame and the legacy built together as one united Customs family.

He added that within the period under review, the Command witnessed
remarkable transformations driven by discipline, teamwork, commitment and
resilience. “We repositioned ourselves from a traditional structure into a modern, vibrant and forward looking command. Today, our officers and men can stand tall, speak boldly and discharge their statutory responsibilities with dignity, confidence and true professionalism.

Dalhatu prayed for his successor to succeed beyond measures hoping the legacy they have built becomes a solid foundation for even greater achievements while expressing deep gratitude to the Management of the Nigeria Customs Service for the privilege of serving as the forty second Customs Area Controller of Kano/Jigawa Command, especially CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, PhD for his guidance and mentorship.

However, the Command said it generated a total of N112,724,937,598.76 as revenue between January -December 2025.
