It was a colorful Monday in Kano as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf swear-in Justice Dije Abdu Aboki as the first substantive female Chief Judge of the state.
Alh. Abba Kabir Yusuf said the event is a remarkable one in the history of state, breaking the old tradition which before now, saw only male Chief Judges in the State.
He congratulated Justice Dije adding that her emergence as the new Chief Judge is not surprising considering her previous records.
He charged her to rise to the occasion and reform the sector in the State by addressing issues of judicial corruption and other irregularities bedeviling the sector in the State.
Abba Kabir pledged to accord her needed support while calling on other judicial officials to rally around her for better service delivery and also seek the help of the judiciary in the ongoing fight to recover public assets misappropriated by the previous administration.
The governor said, the Chief Judge must also work hard to change the perception amongst the judiciary officers who see the executive alm of the government as a rival
According to him, collaboration between the three alms of government is a must for any democratic government to succeed.
Kabir Yusuf reiterated his commitment towards running an inclusive and progressive government for the development of the State and it’s people.
The event which took place at the popular Africa House, Kano State Government House had in attendance, security chiefs in the state, Royal fathers (represented), former attorney general of the federation, Abubakar Malami, AB Mahmoud, spectators and other prominent personalities.
Malami, former attorney general of the federation described Dije as a no nonsense woman who has done extremely well in her field of endeavor.
He said, the confidence reposed in the new Chief Judge is well placed Haven known Aboki personally as a practicing lawyer, adding that she was well known for her discipline, commitment and a passion for justice.
Abubakar, applauded the governor of the state for meticulously giving the mandate to a woman of substance praying for Allah’s guidance towards successful discharge of her duties.
In her remarks, Dije, said her goal is to enhance justice delivery and and ensure its accessablity to all.
The new Chief Judge stated that, all hands must be on deck to restore the lost glory of the judiciary in the state while hoping for a stronger collaboration between the three alms of government in the state.
