The Katsina State Government has assured residents that the Government Day Secondary School, Mai Dabino public school recently highlighted on social media over its deplorable condition has already been captured under its ongoing education infrastructure rehabilitation programme and will soon undergo comprehensive renovation.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hon. Yusuf Suleiman Jibia, the government said it welcomed constructive public feedback on the state of public infrastructure, describing such civic engagement as a vital complement to its efforts at improving the education sector.
According to the statement, the affected school had been earmarked for rehabilitation earlier, but the project was delayed due to the security challenges that previously disrupted the community. The government explained that its immediate priority at the time was restoring peace, protecting lives and property, and creating a safe environment for displaced residents to return.
The government noted that with the significant improvement in security through sustained efforts by the Katsina State Government and security agencies, normalcy is gradually returning to the area. It added that families are resettling, pupils are returning to school, and the rehabilitation of critical public infrastructure, including schools, is now being implemented.
The planned intervention will include the renovation of classrooms, replacement of damaged roofs, repair of floors, provision of classroom furniture, upgrading of sanitation facilities, and other essential works aimed at providing a safe and conducive learning environment for pupils and teachers.
Reaffirming the commitment of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s administration to quality education, the government said it would continue investing in educational infrastructure, teacher development, and improved learning facilities across the state. It also appealed to communities, parents, and other stakeholders to protect public facilities, stressing that sustainable development requires collective responsibility.
The government assured residents that work on the affected school would commence in line with the approved implementation schedule, reiterating its resolve to ensure every community benefits from improved security, quality education, and sustainable development.
