Two suspected kidnappers were arrested in Ughelli, Delta State, after they reportedly left their forest hideout to purchase food and medicine.
The suspects, identified as Iliyasu Hassan and Idris Abdulkarim, were apprehended on June 22, 2026, at about 8:30 p.m. by police operatives working in collaboration with members of a local vigilante group.
According to the Delta State Police Command, a victim of an earlier kidnapping identified the two men as among those who had abducted him, leading to their arrest. Police also linked the suspects to a failed kidnap attempt that occurred on June 19, 2026.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said while the suspects are in custody for further investigations, efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang and recover weapons used in their operations.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the vigilance of residents and the strong collaboration between community members, vigilantes, and security agencies in the fight against crime.
