Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has declared that the power to determine who becomes a leader rests solely with Almighty Allah, stressing that no individual, group or political force can install or stop anyone from attaining leadership outside God’s will.
The governor made the remark while addressing Kano pilgrims and Hajj officials in Makkah during a Sallah visit on Wednesday. He said leadership is a divine trust bestowed by Allah and should be viewed as such by all believers.
Drawing inspiration from verses of the Holy Qur’an, Yusuf noted that while many people often believe they possess the influence to shape political outcomes, ultimate authority belongs to Allah, who grants power to whom He wills and withdraws it at the appointed time.
According to a statement issued by Mustapha Muhammad, Head of the Media Team, Hajj Operations 2026, the governor emphasized that every leadership position is determined by divine decree and that human efforts cannot override the will of God.
“As believers, we must understand that leadership comes from Allah. He gives power to whom He wills and takes it away when He wills,” the governor stated, adding that he has completely submitted himself to Allah’s will regarding future political developments.
Governor Yusuf also used the occasion to urge Kano pilgrims and other eligible citizens to obtain and renew their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing the importance of active participation in the democratic process. He advised those whose voter cards require renewal to take advantage of the registration window before it closes.
The governor further encouraged Nigerians to elect leaders wisely, noting that responsible civic participation remains essential for national development.
He highlighted achievements recorded by his administration over the past three years in education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, human capital development, and women and youth empowerment, saying such progress demonstrates the impact of purposeful leadership.
